E.ON and Borox sign an agreement to increase electricity capacity.

E.ON and Borox sign agreement to increase electricity capacity – paving the way for industrial investment and boosting jobs in Eneryda.

E.ON and Borox International AB have signed an agreement to increase electricity capacity in Eneryda, in the municipality of Älmhult. The agreement stems from Borox’s efforts to transition its production by replacing an existing gas heated furnace with an electric one—a move that enhances competitiveness, reduces environmental impact, and paves the way for continued growth.

Borox in Eneryda is switching its production from gas to electricity. This initiative is made possible by E.ON expanding and reinforcing the power grid in the area.

To make this initiative possible, E.ON is investing approximately 11 million kronor to upgrade and reinforce the power grid in the area. Other businesses will also benefit from this investment through a more robust and high-capacity power supply.

“This is an important investment for us. By replacing part of our LPG consumption with electricity, we can both reduce our environmental impact and create better conditions for further developing our business. It’s about future-proofing our production and enabling continued expansion,” says Stefan Svanborg, CEO of Borox International AB.

The project involves upgrading the power grid in Eneryda with new cables, modernized substations, and increased redundancy—measures that reduce vulnerability and improve reliability of supply throughout the area.

“As industry transitions, the power grid needs to keep pace. Here, we’re not only facilitating a vital investment in a local business, but also creating the conditions for more companies to grow and invest in Eneryda,” says Henrik Sjöberg, Regional Manager at E.ON.

The upgrade will give the power grid a more robust structure, allowing different parts of the system to support one another in the event of disruptions. This reduces the risk of outages and creates better conditions for businesses in the area.

“Access to electricity is now a critical factor for business competitiveness. This initiative helps secure jobs and create new opportunities for growth in Eneryda,” says Henrik Sjöberg.

Currently, the power grid in the area serves approximately 400 customers. The new capacity will make room for both the expansion of existing businesses and the establishment of new ones.

The work is scheduled to take place during the fall of 2026 and the spring of 2027 and will be adjusted in consultation with the relevant parties to minimize disruption.

Borox International’s investment is made possible in part by funding from Klimatklivet, an EU-funded program administered by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The new furnace is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents per year.

E.ON’s project in Eneryda is part of the company’s extensive investment program in the Swedish power grid, under which 27 billion kronor will be invested between 2024 and 2027 to facilitate electrification, strengthen resilience, and contribute to a competitive business sector throughout the country.
